Due to low production of coal and increased consumption of electricity due to rain across the country, thermal power stations did not have much coal stock for days.
In the coming few days, if your home may also be in the grip of power cut. Because the amount of coal used to generate electricity in India has reduced significantly. In the year 2019, the total consumption of electricity in the month of August-September was 10 thousand 660 crore units per month but in 2021 this figure increased to 12 thousand 420 crores per unit. In such a situation, the stock left is enough to last only a few days.
According to a report by the Ministry of Power, this information has come to the fore. Explain that 70 percent of the country’s electricity generation is based on coal. Of the total 135 thermal power plants in the country, 72 plants have less than 3 days of coal stock left. Whereas there are 50 power plants which have only 4 to 10 days of stock left. Whereas there are only 13 such plants where more than 10 days of stock is left.
According to the report of the Ministry of Power, the biggest reason for this shortfall is the low production of coal and the problems faced in its imports. Due to the rains, the production of coal has reduced considerably, due to which their prices have also come down considerably and their transportation is also suffering a lot. Due to all these problems, there may be a power crisis in the entire country in the coming time.
According to the Ministry of Energy, Corona is also one of the reasons behind this crisis. Electricity was produced in large quantities during Corona. In the year 2019, the total consumption of electricity during the month of August-September was 10 thousand 660 crore units per month, while in 2021 it increased to 12 thousand 420 crore units per month.
