Aman Sehrawat lost 4.6 kg weight before the bronze medal match
India finally got its first medal in wrestling on 9 August at the Paris Olympics. In the bronze medal match of the men’s 57 kg category, 21-year-old Aman Sehrawat defeated Puerto Rico’s Darian Toi Cruz by a margin of 13-5 to win the medal. Just before this match, Aman also faced a situation similar to Vinesh Phogat. After the semi-final match, Aman’s weight had increased to more than 61 kg, which was much more than the prescribed limit. After this, due to the hard work of the coach, Aman reduced his weight to 57 kg within 10 hours and prepared himself to play in the bronze medal match.
Bathed in hot water for an hour, at 4:30 in the morning Aman’s weight came to 56.9 kg
Vinesh Phogat of India was disqualified just before the gold medal match because she was just 100 grams overweight. Aman’s weight also increased and this created a big problem for his coach. In such a situation, senior Indian coaches Jagmander Singh and Virendra Dahiya worked hard with Aman for 10 hours to reduce his weight. During this time, while Aman was given a mat session for one and a half hours, he was also bathed in hot water for an hour.
Aman Sehrawat ran continuously on the treadmill for one hour. There were also 5 sessions of sauna bath of 5 minutes each. Apart from this, Aman was also made to do light jogging. Due to the hard work of the coaches, everyone breathed a sigh of relief when Aman’s weight came down to 56.9 kg, slightly less than the set limit of 57 kg, at around 4:30 in the morning.
Medal came in wrestling for the 5th consecutive time in Olympics
With India winning a medal in wrestling at the Paris Olympics, the streak of winning medals in this event continued from 2008. In 2008, Sushil Kumar won a bronze medal for India in the wrestling event at the Olympics. This is also India’s 8th medal in wrestling in the history of the Olympics. At the same time, another medal is expected in wrestling at the Paris Olympics, in which all eyes are on Ritika Hooda.
