New Delhi. The first round of talks between the West Bengal government and the agitating doctors on the rape and murder of junior doctors was completed on Monday (September 16) at the residence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kalighat. After the meeting, Mamata Banerjee came out, but no information has been revealed yet about the conclusions of the meeting.
After four failed attempts to progress the discussion, a delegation of junior doctors reached Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence for a crucial meeting. Earlier, the doctors had demanded ‘live streaming’ and ‘video recording’ of the meeting, which was turned down by the state government. As a result, the earlier attempts failed. However, later the protesting doctors slightly softened their demand and agreed to only record the minutes of the meeting and give a signed copy of it. This condition was immediately accepted by the West Bengal government.
Chief Secretary Manoj Pant said that both the parties will sign the minutes of the meeting and copies will be given to each other. Meanwhile, the doctors have continued their protest outside the Health Department headquarters ‘Swasthya Bhavan’. They are demanding justice in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital and are also demanding the dismissal of the Kolkata Police Commissioner and senior health officials of the state.
To attend the meeting, the doctors said that they will be accompanied by two professional stenographers who will record the details of the meeting. The doctors have made it clear that they will not settle for anything less than their five demands, which they have already placed before the government.
