During the discussion on Chabahar Port, it came to light that its construction work would be done rapidly so that India can trade without any hindrance to West Asia.
This port is located in the Gulf of Oman and with its construction, India will not need to trade through Pakistan route, which used to create a lot of complexity in trade activities.
While giving information to the media, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said that there was a detailed discussion on many important issues between Prime Minister Modi and the Iranian President.
PM Modi first congratulated Dr. Masood on becoming the President of Iran and welcomed Iran’s joining BRICS. After this, both the leaders emphasized on accelerating the construction of Chabahar Port and International North-South Transport Corridor, which is important from India’s trade and strategic point of view. This port will help in connecting India with West Asia and Central Asia and reduce dependence on the route through Pakistan.
