Indeed, Reliance Retail has acquired the famous American company Calvinter. The deal was announced on 18 July 2025. However, it has not been revealed how much the deal has been done. After the acquisition by Reliance Retail, the kelvinator is now likely to be reborn.

Reliance is planning to bring Kelvinator back to India through its 19,340 stores and digital platforms networks. Also, Reliance’s Digital Commerce Strategy, including Reliance Digital and GiMart, may promote online sales.
History of Kelvinator: Kelvinator was established in 1914 Nathanial B.K. Wales and Arnold H. Gauss. The brand pledged the refrigeration technology and was named after scientist Lord Calvin. Calvinator entered India in 1963 and became a well-known name from house to house with the credibility of his refrigerators and the ‘most spectacular’ tagline.
The calvinator made a strong presence in India in the 1970s and 1980s when it was a pioneer in the market with Godrej and Allwin. However, after liberalization in the 1990s, competition from global brands such as LG, Samsung and Whirlpool faded.
In the 2000s, the presence of Kelvinator in the Indian market weakened, although today the Kelvinator’s portfolio includes refrigerators, washing machines, air conditioners and microwave ovens. Now Reliance will plan to bring it from house to house again.
