Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh: Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) has suspended four of its employees with immediate effect. They are alleged to have allegedly following Christianity while working in the Hindu religious institute, which is against the Code of Conduct of TTD.
Vigilance investigation and violation of rules
According to the TTD administration, this action has been taken on the basis of investigation and internal reports of the Vigilance Department. The investigation found that these employees failed to conduct the values and traditions of the Hindu religious institution. TTD has considered it a serious violation of institutional rules.
List of suspended employees
The following four employees are suspended:
1. B. Elezer – Deputy Executive Engineer (Quality Control)
2. S. Rosie – Staff Nurse, Bird Hospital
3. M. Premavati – Grade -1 Pharmacist, Bird Hospital
4. Dr. G. Asuna – Sri Venkateswara Ayurvedic Pharmacy
TTD said that information related to these employees following Christianity came to light from the report of the Vigilance Department and other evidence. After this, they were suspended by taking disciplinary action as per rules.
Commitment to maintains traditions and credit of TTD
TTD clarified that being a Hindu religious institution, employees are expected to follow the traditions and religious values of the temple. The purpose of this action is to maintain the dignity and discipline of the institution.
Rules were changed in 2007
The TTD’s service rules were amended in the year 2007, under which new recruits of non-Hindus were banned. However, the non-Hindu employees appointed before that time are still in service. The Andhra Pradesh government has already announced that non-Hindu employees will be removed from TTD and transferred to other government departments.
TTD rules and policies
According to the current rules of TTD, only people who believe in Hinduism are eligible for jobs in the institution. Also, it is mandatory for all employees to maintain respect for temple traditions and Hinduism.
future plan
The TTD board said that they are considering the process of transferring non-Hindu employees to other departments of the state government or giving voluntary retirement (VRS). This step is being taken to further strengthen the religious identity and rules of the institution.
