Jammu. Five pilgrims of Shri Amarnath Yatra were injured in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir today when a cab carrying him was hit by a truck. According to the police, the accident occurred at the Industrial Chowk in Battal Ballian area on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. A truck driver named William, a resident of Gurdaspur in Punjab, hit the cab due to alleged negligence.
The truck driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the barrier and concertina wires on the road and then collided with the cab of the pilgrims. The injured pilgrims have been identified as Harishchand Jaiswal, Kaushal Kishore, Veer Bhadra, Azad Ghond and Ajay Madeshia. All are residents of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. All have been admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC) of Udhampur for treatment. The police has started investigating the case.
New batch of 7,908 pilgrims leave from Jammu Base Camp
After the adjournment of Shri Amarnath Yatra from Jammu Base Camp for a day, a new batch of 7,908 pilgrims left for the holy Amarnath Cave Temple in South Kashmir Himalayas from Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp, chanting ‘Bam Bum Bhole’. No batch was allowed to move forward from Jammu and Pahalgam-Chandanwadi base camp yesterday due to landslides and heavy rains on the Baltal road.
However, officials said that the pilgrims left the base camp in a fleet of 261 vehicles today. He further said, “Amid tight security arrangements, a new batch of 7,908 pilgrims left for Shri Amarnath Cave Temple in Kashmir from Jammu Base Camp.” He further stated that 2,879 pilgrims left for Pahalgam and 5,029 pilgrims for Baltal in a convoy of 261 vehicles, including both light motor vehicles and heavy motor vehicles. The 38 -day annual pilgrimage started on both the routes on July 2 with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the first batch. The journey will end on 9 August. So far, more than 2 lakh pilgrims have visited this pilgrimage center.
