Amrit Vichar, Lucknow: There is an ancient Shiva temple of Chhota Shivala Mahadev located in Rani Katra area of Chowk area. Priest and administrator Ramesh Kumar Sharma said that this self -proclaimed Shivling is also known as Chhoti Kashi. The temple is about 500 years old. Chhota Shivala Rani is located in the narrow street in front of the Kheerbhavani Mata temple in Katra. The temple was built in the 18th century, when several Shiva temples were built in Lucknow. The specialty of this temple is that the Argha (Jalhari) of Shivling is towards the west direction.
Usually the argha of Shivling is in the north-south direction. Many times its Argha has changed automatically. Earlier there used to be tantric action here. It is believed that by offering water for 40 days in this temple, devotees get mental peace and their wishes are fulfilled. The Shivalinga installed in the temple is facing west.
The priest told that earlier there was a well here, from which the Peepal tree was removed. There were countless snakes residing in it. It is believed that snakes also worshiped Bholenath. This temple was renovated 20 years ago. Now snakes are not visible due to cement walls. In the month of Sawan, especially on Monday, there is a huge crowd of devotees. Local residents have unwavering faith in this temple.
