Till now you must have seen airbags only in vehicles like cars and SUVs, but very soon this special safety feature will be seen in scooters and motorcycles too. In fact, Piaggio Group is also developing airbags for scooters and motorcycles keeping in mind the safety of two-wheeler drivers. The company has partnered with Autoliv, a company providing automotive safety systems for this.
These two companies have signed an agreement to jointly manufacture airbags to provide better safety to two-wheeler riders. It is being told that this airbag will be mounted on the frame of the vehicle, which will open in milliseconds in case of any emergency (during an accident), giving safety to the bike and scooter rider.
Autoliv has already developed the concept of such airbags with advanced simulation tools. Not only this, this airbag has also been crash tested for scooters and bikes. At the same time, the partnership with Piaggio will now go a long way in helping the company develop airbags better.
The utility and importance of airbags has been especially seen in four wheelers. Airbags have saved lives of many people during accidents around the world. Considering this utility, vehicle manufacturers have also been directed to include it as a standard feature. Mikel Bratt, CEO and President of Autoliv, said, “The creation of this airbag is an important step towards our goal of saving 100,000 lives a year by 2030.”
Advance features are no longer limited to only four wheelers. Now bikes and scooters also get anti lock braking system (ABS), anti-sleep regulation (ASR), traction control, stability control, automatic emergency call system etc. In such a situation, the inclusion of airbags in these vehicles is a commendable step.
