The ministry has made a big change in the rules related to vehicles. Vehicle owners must be aware of this. This change has been made in respect of cars, motorcycles, scooties and any other type of vehicle.
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has released the Revised Notification for Registration and Functions of Vehicle Scraping Facility Rules, which lay down the procedure for setting up of Registered Vehicle Scraping Facility. These amendments will simplify and digitize the process of vehicle scrapping for all in the system.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the National Vehicle Scaping Policy in August last year. Under the new policy, states and union territories (UTs) will provide up to 25 per cent tax exemption on road tax for vehicles purchased after scrapping old vehicles. The Vehicle Scraping Policy will come into effect from April 1, 2022. According to this policy, there is a provision of fitness test after 20 years for personal vehicles, while it will be required after completion of 15 years for commercial vehicles.

What is scrap policy?
According to this new scrap policy, 15 and 20 year old vehicles will be scrapped. While a commercial vehicle can be declared junk after 15 years, it is 20 years for a private vehicle. Simply put, your 20-year-old personal car will be sold like a scrap. Vehicle owners will have to take them to the Automated Fitness Center after the stipulated time. The government claims that the scrapping policy will not only reduce the financial loss of the vehicle owners, but also protect their lives. There will also be a reduction in road accidents.

What is the benefit to customers?
Under the new scrap policy, there will be a 5 percent discount on showing the scrapping certificate while buying a new vehicle. On scrapping the car, 4-6 percent of the price will be given to the owner. Along with this, the registration fee will be waived off at the time of registration of a new vehicle.

Will there be exemption in road tax?
Under the new scrap policy, up to 25 percent exemption in road tax has been said for 3 years on buying a new vehicle. State governments can give up to 25% discount on private vehicles and 15% on commercial vehicles.
