The electric scooter segment is rapidly gaining popularity in the country. Another new player has now entered the race for electric vehicles. Darwin Platform Group of Companies (DPGC) has launched three new electric two wheeler models Darwin D-5, D-7 and D-14. The company has launched these models in the market at a very affordable price and with better driving range.
Equipped with an attractive look and powerful electric motor, the D5, D7 and D14 are priced at Rs.68,000, Rs.73000 and Rs.77,000 (ex-showroom) respectively. These electric scooters have been given many features like muscular design, better range, keyless entry, regenerative braking, speed control gear, battery swapping, large LED display, high-quality suspension, USB mobile charger port, hazard switch.
The company claims that these scooters give a driving range of 70 to 120 km in a single charge. Dr. Raja Roy Chowdhury, CEO, DPGC Group, said, “The global automotive industry is undergoing a major transformation and people are increasingly moving towards electric mobility. This trend has started picking up momentum in India as well. Darwin EVAT aims to contribute as much as possible to this electric revolution.”
Saurabh Mohan Saxena, Director and Automobile Business Head of the company said, “The company will initially invest around Rs 450 crore and the same will be used for research and development to improve the production of electric vehicles. The company is based in Delhi-NCR. Started working on the concept of better quality vehicles at a lower cost in the manufacturing plant.
These affordable electric scooters from Darwin will mainly compete with models like Ola, Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube in the market. Those costing Rs 1 lakh or above. Apart from this, the driving range of Darwin electric scooters is also much better.
