Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is taking steps to set up its new manufacturing plant at Kharkhoda, Haryana with huge investment. The plant is spread over an area of 900 acres. Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala told a public meeting that Maruti Suzuki will start production of its first electric vehicle in Kharkhoda by the middle of this decade (2025).

Suzuki will use 100 acres of this factory to make motorcycles, while Maruti will produce electric vehicles on the remaining 800 acres. The youth of Haryana will be given 75 percent of the jobs available under the law of employment reservation in the private sector. About 11,000 youth will be employed in this factory while around 3,000 workers will be hired in the motorcycle sector.

The company said that the first phase of the new factory is expected to be completed by 2025. Its production capacity will be 2.5 lakh units per year. Administrative approvals related to the construction of the new factory are yet to be taken. MSI said it will invest over Rs 11,000 crore on the first phase of the plant. The company said that the Sonepat factory will also have space for capacity expansion in the future.

Rs 7,300 crore has been allocated to open a new factory for battery production. The first electric vehicle is expected to be a mid-size SUV for the Indian and global markets. It is being brought in collaboration with Toyota and the Japanese brand has tied up with the Karnataka government for the production of EVs and other components.
