Khwaja also said that the government has no system to stop floods. People are unnecessarily blaming the government for this. He claimed that the local government is responsible for the flood, which is powerless. People are encroaching and changing the path of water, which is sure to flood.
854 people died in Pakistan so far
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) report, the death toll in Pakistan from 26 June to 31 August has increased to 854 and more than 1100 people have been injured. Around 2 million people of Punjab province have been directly affected by the flood. Punjab Information Minister Ajma Bukhari said that Punjab has seen such floods for the first time. This time Jhelum, Chenab and Ravi are all in spate. According to the Punjab government, 41 people have died due to floods so far.
Pakistani officials said that more than 1 million people from Punjab province have been evacuated from their homes. The country is facing the most horrific floods of four decades, which destroyed hundreds of villages and submerged grain crops. Punjab Information Minister Ajma Bukhari said that more than 2 million people have been affected by this severe flood. The government has saved 7,60,000 people and more than 5,00,000 animals trapped in the floods.
