Tata Motors, which is known for its heavy and commercial vehicles across the country, is preparing to make a major reshuffle in the passenger car segment. With the positive change in the demand for the company’s passenger vehicles in the last few years, it is being speculated that Tata Motors may soon snatch the No. 2 position from Hyundai.
Tata Motors has registered a growth of 3.41% in its market share so far this financial year. Which is the highest compared to any vehicle manufacturer. By the end of October, Tata Motors’ market share in the passenger segment has reached 11.08%, while Hyundai’s market share has fallen by 1.09% to just 16.99%.
Tata Motors seems to be getting very serious about its passenger car segment. In the last few months, the company has launched new vehicles one after the other in the market. From mid-size SUV to compact SUV segment, Nexon has launched models like Tata Punch in the sub-four meter segment. Apart from this, the company is also showing a lot of momentum on the network expansion front. The way Tata Motors vehicles are gaining popularity, it can be said that very soon the company will become the second largest car manufacturer in the country after Maruti Suzuki. At present, this tag is with Hyundai.
What the sales figures say:
In the month of October, Maruti Suzuki has occupied the first position by selling a total of 1,08,991 vehicles. However, there has been a decline of 33.4% in the sales of the company as compared to 1,63,665 units in the month of October last year. Keeping its second position, Hyundai has sold a total of 37,021 units of vehicles during this period, which is 34.6% less than 56,605 units in the month of October last year. But amidst all this, Tata Motors has sold 33,926 units of vehicles, registering the fastest growth of 43.8%.
These vehicles of Tata Motors are in demand:
Tata Motors recently launched its new micro SUV Tata Punch in the market. A total of 8,453 units of this SUV, introduced at a very low price, have been sold. At the same time, with 10,096 units, Nexon has become the company’s best selling vehicle in the month of October. A total of 5,128 units of Altroz have been sold during this period.
Tata Motors, which has been lagging behind in the passenger segment in the last few years, is now building its vehicles on a new state-of-the-art platform. The company has built the Tata Safari on the award winning IMPACT 2.0 design language and Land Rover’s OMEGARC architecture platform. The same platform was also used in the manufacture of the company’s famous SUV Tata Harrier. This is the D8 platform of Land Rover, its body frame and chassis makes this SUV special. Apart from this, SUVs like the Punch have been built on the ‘Agile Light Flexible Advanced’ (ALFA) architecture.
Focus on Safety and Advanced Features:
Tata Motors is now giving priority to advanced features in its vehicles by moving beyond the traditional vehicle manufacturing process. Safety is being taken care of in the company’s vehicles. Vehicles like Tata Altroz, Nexon and Punch have got 5 star rating in Global NCAP crash test. Apart from this, features are also being provided according to the interest of the users in affordable models with connected car technology. The major changes that the company has made in its vehicles, its direct effect is also being seen in the sales. It would not be wrong to say that the problems of Hyundai are going to increase with the speed of Tata Motors.
