Rakesh Jhunjhunwala-backed Akasa Air plans to start its first commercial flight around June. This information was given by Vinay Dubey, co-founder and CEO of the airline.
Dubey said that his airline is working closely with the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to complete all necessary procedures. “We expect 18 aircraft to be in flight in 12 months and 12-14 aircraft after a year,” Dubey said.
In October last year, Akasa’s parent company SNV Aviation Pvt Ltd had received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the government. It usually takes around six months for an airline to obtain an Air Operator’s Permit (AOP) after obtaining the NOC.
