Let us tell you that Sonia Vihar and Jagatpur will soon have a facility of eco-friendly river cruise at a distance of four kilometers, for which the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) and the Delhi government are going to sign an agreement. Electric-lore hybrid boats will be started under this initiative.

Hybrid boats will be started to carry 20-30 passengers in Yamuna. These ships will have bio-toilets, public declaration systems and life jackets to ensure both security and convenience. Additionally, two high -density polyethylene (HDPE) jetty will be installed to facilitate smooth boating operations. The objective of this step is to promote tourism and enjoy river cruise.

The partnership plans to develop this part of Yamuna as a popular water tourist destination, as well as ensure sustainable shipping. This initiative is expected to promote short distance water travel and recreational activities, which will make the river more accessible to both tourists and local people.
Proposal was given in 2018 itself
The concept of water transport on Yamuna is not new. In 2018, the central government proposed a water taxi project on a 16 km stake from Wazirabad to Fatehpur Jat. In September last year, IWAI released an expression of interest for boating services on a loop of 8 km between Sonia Vihar and Wazirabad Barrage. It was specified in the EOI that the boats should be electric or solar hybrids, with a seating capacity of 20–30 passengers. It states, “The speed should be about 5 to 7 knots, and the maximum draft should be 1.2 meters.
