Due to the decline recorded in the foreign markets, the prices of domestic edible oils saw a weakness in the Delhi oil-oilseeds market on Saturday, while the prices of oilseeds registered a fall. Sources associated with the oil-oilseeds business said that due to the fall of about five per cent recorded on the Chicago Exchange on Friday, the prices of edible oils were also seen to be stable or declining at the domestic level.

He said that the demand for mustard, cottonseed and groundnut oil remained in the domestic market due to the cheapness of domestic oils as compared to foreign oils. However, the arrival of mustard seeds decreased from 6.50 lakh sacks on Saturday to 5.15 lakh sacks on Saturday. According to sources, there has been a fall in soybean grain prices amid reports of the government opening up imports of soyabean DOC. It has come down by Rs 300 per quintal to Rs 7,100-7,200 per quintal.
Business sources urged the government to maintain sufficient stock in view of the increasing use of mustard oil in refined production, saying that the country will have to increase the production of oilseeds to achieve self-sufficiency in oilseeds production.
