Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman called an important meeting on Friday amid increasing tension between India and Pakistan. In this meeting, Sitharaman instructed to take all the necessary steps to be cautious from banks and to ensure customers without interruption services. At the meeting of top officials of banks and insurance companies on cyber security preparations, the Finance Minister emphasized the important role of banking and financial sector in ensuring economic stability in challenging times.

Instructions to upgrade and test emergency protocol

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that banking services should work without any interruption and disturbances. This includes both branches of banks and digital banks. He said that to deal with any adverse situation, banks should upgrade the emergency protocol and tes him. The Finance Minister has also asked banks to ensure safety of all bank employees and their families working in branches in the border areas.

The Finance Ministry said in a statement that Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also directed banks to ensure adequate security by effectively coordinating with security agencies. Apart from the top officials of banks and insurance companies, senior officials of the Department of Financial Services (Ministry of Finance), RBI, IRDAI and NPCI also attended the meeting.

All ATMs in the country are active and full of adequate cash

Earlier, on Friday evening, many other banks, including State Bank of India and Punjab National Bank, said their ATMs are completely operational and have sufficient cash. Banks said that their digital service is also running smoothly.
