Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Friday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi always calls the northeastern region as ‘Ashta Lakshmi’ and people with good nature, natural resources, cultural prosperity, strategic places and everything are abundant. For this reason, this region will contribute a major contribution to the developed India 2047 vision.

Speaking at IICA North East Conclave 2025 at IIM Shillong, Finance Minister Sitharaman said, “We always talk about Sabka Saath and Sabka Vikas and it cannot be fulfilled without incorporating the northeastern region. It is not only about the financial inclusion, but also about fulfilling the aspirations of the youth.”

The Finance Minister further said, “In today’s time, youth are molding themselves faster than the needs of the world. In such a situation, if you get policy support, then it can create a very good platform for entrepreneurship development.”

The Finance Minister said, “There are 2,300 DPIIT-recognized startups in the North Eastern region, 69 of which are located in Meghalaya alone. It is important that institutions like IIM Shillong help and help all professionals together and meet all the professionals together and meet periodically. Now when IICA is here, they should become a medium for people to bring up the medium of discussion and corresponding issues. Could. “

Apart from this, the Finance Minister visited the Startup Exhibition at IICA North East Conclave 2025 and interacted with the startup founders. During this, Meghalaya Chief Minister Konrad Sangma was also present with him.

This exhibition included 39 startups, FPOs, financial institutions and incubators from the Northeast region.

The Finance Minister said that IICA North East Conclave 2025 is established as a transformative event, which will highlight the entrepreneurship capacity of the region and connect national priorities with local aspirations through knowledge, policy and partnership.
