Shaktikanta Das replied about these speculations as well. He made it clear that there is no thought of taking back the 500 note. RBI is not going to bring even Rs 1000 notes. RBI Governor said that people should not panic or show haste to exchange 2000 notes. He has plenty of time for this. Yes, they should either deposit the 2000 rupee note in their account or get it exchanged as soon as possible to avoid last minute panic.
2000 rupee notes were issued by the Reserve Bank in the year 2016 at the time of demonetisation. The Reserve Bank stopped printing these notes from 2017 itself. In the last few months, in the raids of Income Tax and ED, bundles of 2000 notes came out from the accused. Since then, speculations were being made that 2000 rupee notes would be discontinued. The government did not stop these notes, but the decision to take them out of circulation was definitely announced by the Reserve Bank.
