The rupee on Thursday shed 10 paise to close at an all-time low of 77.72 per dollar amid continued outflow of foreign funds and a sharp fall in the domestic equity market.
The rupee opened weak at 77.72 against the dollar in the interbank foreign exchange market. The rupee closed at 77.72 at the end of trading, marking a fall of 10 paise over the previous closing price. The rupee went down to a low of 77.76 during the day’s trading. It also touched a high of 77.63. On Wednesday, the rupee had closed 18 paise lower at 77.62 per dollar.
Meanwhile, the dollar index, reflecting the US dollar’s position against the six major currencies, declined 0.28 per cent to 103.51. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures fell 1.87 per cent to $107.07 a barrel.
The BSE 30-share Sensex closed at 52,792.23 points, down 1,416.30 points, or 2.61 per cent. The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange fell 430.90 points, or 2.65 per cent, to 15,809.40.
