The second phase of mandatory hallmarking of gold jewelery and artefacts will begin from June 1 this year. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has given this information.
In addition to three additional carats (20, 23 and 24 carats) of gold jewelery in the second phase of mandatory hallmarking, 32 new districts will come under the ambit of the second phase of mandatory hallmarking, where after the implementation of the first phase, an ‘Assay and Hallmark Center (AHC)’ will come under the ambit of the second phase, the ministry said. has been set up. The Central Government has notified an order in this regard and it will come into force from June 1, 2022.
Explain that hallmarking is the proof of the purity of gold. This was voluntary till 16 June 2021 after which the government decided to implement mandatory hallmarking of gold in a phased manner. In the first phase, 256 districts of the country were brought under its ambit.
Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has successfully implemented mandatory hallmarking of gold in 256 districts of the country with effect from June 23, 2021 where more than 3 lakh gold jewelery is being hallmarked with Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) every day.
According to the ministry, under a provision of BIS, a normal consumer can also get the purity of gold jewelery checked at AHCs recognized by BIS.
