Amidst the sluggish pace of Corona and the rising inflation, the price of oil does not seem to be in control in the country at the moment. Petrol and diesel prices were hiked for the ninth time on Wednesday (March 30, 2022). The prices of both increased by 80-80 paise, after which the oil increased by Rs 5.60 (per liter) for a total of nine days.
After the latest increase, the price of petrol in the national capital Delhi has gone up to Rs 101.01 per liter, while the price of one liter of diesel has gone up to Rs 92.27 (an increase of 80-80 paise). Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices in Maharashtra’s Mumbai city (the country’s financial capital) touched Rs 115.88 and Rs 100.10 (an increase of 84 paise and 85 paise) per liter respectively.
Petrol in Chennai city of Tamil Nadu increased by 75 paise to Rs 106.69 per liter. At the same time, there was an increase of 76 paise in diesel and it reached Rs 96.76 per liter. Talking about Kolkata city of West Bengal, then petrol has become Rs 110.52 per liter there. This has happened after the increase of 84 paise and diesel has gone up to Rs 95.42 per liter after the increase of 80 paise.
A day earlier i.e. on Tuesday (March 29, 2022) too, the price of oil had increased. Petrol was increased by 80 paise per liter. After this increase, it has crossed the figure of Rs 100 a liter in most of the state capitals. At the same time, the price of diesel increased by 70 paise per liter.
Although the prices of petrol and diesel have increased across the country, their prices vary from state to state depending on local taxes. Petrol prices in Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata have already crossed Rs 100 per liter. In most of the state capitals, petrol has crossed the ‘century’ mark.
Earlier, the price of petrol in the national capital Delhi had crossed Rs 100 a liter on July 7, 2021 and had reached an all-time high of Rs 110.04. Then on November 4, the Narendra Modi government had cut excise duty on vehicle fuel.
Petrol and diesel prices were raised on March 22 after remaining stable for a record 137 days. The prices have been raised for the eighth time (the latest addition) since then. In addition to local taxes, the cost of fuel is also affected by the freight cost.
