The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday dismissed as “baseless” allegations that Xiaomi India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chinese mobile manufacturing company, had claimed that the authorities had filed their “under coercion”. The ED has refuted the allegations leveled by Xiaomi India, saying the statements of its officials are “untrue” and “baseless”.
“The ED denies Xiaomi India’s allegations that the statements of its officials were taken under coercion and coercion,” the probe agency said in a tweet. According to media reports, Xiaomi had said that its top executives faced harassment and coercive threats during interrogation by the ED.
The ED had in February this year attached Rs 5551.27 crore of Xiaomi Technology India Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of China-based Xiaomi Group, under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) in connection with illegal transactions carried out by the firm.
The seized amount of Rs 5551.27 crore is lying in the bank accounts of Xiaomi Technology India Pvt Ltd, which started its operations in India in 2014 and started remitting money in 2015. Following the ED action, Chinese telecommunications firm Xiaomi said it was committed to working closely with government officials to clear any “misunderstandings”.
Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday dismissed the allegations of mobile phone maker Xiaomi India as baseless and said that the statements of the company’s officials were recorded under pressure.
The ED has issued this statement in the context of the allegation made by Xiaomi in the Karnataka High Court that during the interrogation of the ED investigators in Bengaluru, the top executives of the company were intimidated besides assault and pressure. Xiaomi India is a wholly owned company of Chinese mobile manufacturer Xiaomi.
The Enforcement Directorate issued a statement on some reports about Xiaomi’s allegation, saying that it is “a professional agency that takes full care of working ethics and the company’s executives were not threatened or threatened at any time”. The pressure was put on.”
According to this statement, “The allegations that the statements of Xiaomi India officials have been recorded by ED under duress are completely false and baseless. Officials of Xiaomi India have recorded their statements voluntarily before the ED and under the FEMA Act.
