In a letter to Singh, president of ‘The Forum of Academics for Social Justice’ and former member of DU’s academic council, Hansraj Suman, has alleged that university colleges admit students more than the sanctioned seats every year while those under reserved categories Seats remain vacant. “Before starting the admission process under the Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and Divyang quotas, the data for the last five years should be analysed,” the letter said. This will show that different colleges have admitted more number of seats than the sanctioned seats while the reserved seats were not filled in return. Every year the reserved categories seats remain vacant.
Suman claimed that every year 10 per cent more admissions are done in various colleges of Delhi University than the sanctioned seats and most of the colleges do not fill the reserved category seats in exchange for the increased seats. It is noteworthy that the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University had constituted an 8-member committee to look into the issue of ‘decrease’ in enrollment of SC/ST students.
