Medical students who returned to India due to Corona virus may soon return to China. The registration process has started for Indian students studying in China. The Government of India has requested students wishing to attend classes in person to register by May 8. After that the list will be shared with the Chinese side.
Based on the list shared by India, the Chinese authorities will verify the details of Indian students with the relevant departments and only after that the students will be called to continue their studies in Chinese universities.
The government said that China has expressed its willingness to consider the facility of return of Indian students on need basis. The entire process of sending Indian students to China for studies will be completed at the earliest.
In fact, the process of registration by the Indian government has started a month after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar raised the issue of return of Indian students to China with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi. Jaishankar had told reporters that India expected Beijing to adopt a non-discriminatory approach towards it.
According to data released by the Indian embassy, more than 20,000 Indian students had enrolled for medical degrees in China amid the COVID-19 outbreak. After China closed all universities after the pandemic, most students returned to the country and were unable to return due to strict travel restrictions.
