The Bhagavad Gita, Vedas and Ramayana are all set to make their way into Uttarakhand’s school books. Uttarakhand Education Minister Dhan Singh Rawat informed that Vedas, Ramayana and Geeta will be included in the school syllabus across the state. Apart from this, the history of Uttarakhand will also be taught in schools.
With this announcement, Uttarakhand has become the second state to include the Bhagavad Gita in school books. Earlier, the Gujarat government had said that Geeta would be included in the school syllabus in the state. Karnataka is also considering to include the Bhagavad Gita and its teachings in the school syllabus.

news agency ANI Talking to the Education Minister said, “We are going to implement NEP this year in the upcoming session, Uttarakhand will be the first state to implement it. We are going to introduce Vedas, Geeta, Ramayana and Uttarakhand after suggestions and counseling from public and educationists. Will include history in the syllabus.
The NEP has also directed that the syllabus should also emphasize on introduction to Indian history and traditions. That too will be considered.
Let us tell you, this step has been taken after the similar mandate of the Government of Gujarat and Karnataka. While some have criticized the move. However, states have contended that the Bhagavad Gita and Ramayana are not merely religious texts, but also an integral part of Indian culture and heritage.
