The state government’s education department has issued a strict order banning political rallies and programs in the school premises during school hours, said the state government. The government argues that the conduct of such programs in the school premises affects the studies of the students. According to the information, this step has been taken by the government after receiving reports from the education department about allowing such political programs by headmasters in some campuses during school hours. The Education Department said in the order that the resources of any school including playground shall not be used by any political party/organizer for conducting political functions/rallies etc.
Some headmasters violated the rules
In a strict order issued by Chandni Chandran, Director, School Education Department, it has been said that it is reiterated that the Director of Secondary / Elementary Education or the concerned district must be required to organize other programs during holidays or even after school hours. The condition of taking No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Education Officer will be applicable. He further said that information has been received that some Headmasters/TICs have violated this rule and given verbal or tacit approval for the use of school grounds for political gatherings during school hours. Whereas NOC was not obtained by the organizer.
studies badly affected by the lockdown
The order stated that the lockdown imposed due to COVID-19 has severely affected the studies and thus the conduct of classes during school hours should be given top priority. In the order, the Director of the Education Department said that the schools have reopened after a long holiday due to the situation of the COVID epidemic. Despite this, the headmaster is allowing such programs which are disrupting academic activities and violating departmental norms.
