Thiruvananthapuram. Kerala Education Minister V. Shivankutty on Saturday said that there has not been much spread of COVID-19 among students in the state. He said that the government’s decision to postpone the online classes for students of classes 1 to 9 for two weeks is a precautionary step as the cases of infection have increased in the recent times.
He told a press conference here that classes would be suspended for two weeks as a precautionary measure and the decision would be applicable to all educational institutions in the state. He said that the safety of the children is paramount for the government and according to the new decision the time table of online classes will be redrawn.
Shivankutty said that however, there would be no change in the offline classes of class 10th, 11th and 12th and special arrangements would be made for the children coming to the schools. He said, “With this, more than 35 lakh students will be staying at home and attending online classes during this period. A high-level meeting of the education department will be convened on Monday and revised guidelines will be issued after that.
He said that efforts were being made to vaccinate the students at the earliest and with the help of the health department, arrangements would be made to give them doses of the vaccine in the schools itself.
