The Gujarat government on Friday canceled the annual examination of two subjects of class VII. The decision was taken after the incident of theft of pamphlets from a government school in Bhavnagar district came to light. Two students of Class VII admitted that they had stolen the pamphlets from their school on Wednesday, officials said. Officials said that the annual examination of Science and Social Science, which was scheduled to be held on Friday and Saturday, will now be held on April 29 and April 30.
An official said the exam papers are prepared centrally by the director of primary education and sent to schools in sealed covers. Devraj Dhadhala, the headmaster of a primary school in Neswad village of Talja tehsil, on Thursday morning came to know that someone had vandalized and stole the question papers of science and social science subjects in the night.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Safin Hasan said the Talja police started investigation after registering an FIR and it was found that two students of Class VII had stolen the papers by breaking the locks.
He said the stolen papers have also been recovered. After this, the Office of the Director Primary Education informed the District Primary Education Officers that the examination has been cancelled, and the new examination will be held on 29th and 30th April with new exam question papers.
It also directed that teachers should keep sealed envelopes containing exam papers at their residence instead of school to avoid such incidents.
