New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Tuesday said it will hear on Wednesday the plea of CBSE and several other boards to cancel the offline board examinations for classes 10 and 12. A division bench of justices AM Khanwilkar, Dinesh Maheshwari and CT Ravikumar said orally, “How can the examination be conducted without completing the syllabus”.
Earlier, the counsel appearing for the petitioner had said that the situation of COVID-19 has improved but the syllabus has not been completed yet. The bench said that the advance copy of the petition be given to the standing counsel for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and other concerned respondents. He said, “We will hear it tomorrow.” Counsel appearing for petitioner Anubha Srivastava Sahai put up the matter and requested the bench to hear it immediately.
The counsel appearing for the petitioner told the bench that the Supreme Court had passed orders regarding the 10th and 12th board examinations in 2020 and 2021 and this year also, the main problem is this. “Last year a plan was placed before you. This year also we need a similar solution, otherwise it is going to drag on.
The bench asked the lawyer whether the examinations have started or are to be started. On this, he said that the Madhya Pradesh Board exam has started. He said, “The situation of corona has improved but the classes are not over yet… You should not take the exam before the completion of the course. CBSE has not proposed any scheme.
In the petition, a request has been made to direct CBSE and other education boards to conduct the examination through other means. CBSE and other education boards have proposed to conduct board examinations for class 10th and 12th through offline mode. CBSE has decided to conduct board exams for class 10th and 12th from April 26.
