The Civil Services Examination of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is considered to be one of the toughest exams and students appearing for the exam are often advised to keep a Plan B ready. Today we are going to talk about IAS Sonal Goyal, a resident of Panipat, Haryana, who fulfilled the dream of becoming an IAS by securing 13th rank in UPSC. Let us know about his success story.
Sonal Goyal was born in Panipat, Haryana, but did her schooling in Delhi. After 12th, Sonal graduated from Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University and obtained a CS degree from Delhi. According to a report by UPSC Pathshala, Sonal said that earlier she did not even know about the civil services exam but decided to become an IAS officer after reading an article on civil servant in a magazine.
Sonal Goyal said, “When I told my family about my decision to become an IAS officer during my CS studies, my father did not want me to prepare for UPSC.”
Sonal said, “My father knew that UPSC exam is one of the toughest exams. Though he knew that I am smart but he said that if I want to take the exam then I have to have a plan B ready too.”
Sonal Goyal decided to take UPSC exam, but she started doing LLB course at Delhi University. Along with this, he also worked as a company secretary in a firm.
Sonal Goyal continued her job and LLB studies as well as UPSC exam preparation and in the year 2006 she was not successful for the first time. After hard work, she took the exam for the second time in the year 2007 and managed to become an IAS by securing 13th rank all over India.
Sonal Goyal told, how many years are required to clear UPSC
Sonal Goyal said, if you want to clear UPSC exam then you have to give at least two years for this exam. He said, suppose if you have to give UPSC prelims next year i.e. in 2023, then you should start preparing one year before that. In such a situation, it should be clear in your mind that two years have to be given to pass this exam. With this, he said, the candidates themselves should decide when and how they should start.
