Teachers of schools run by East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) on Thursday approached the High Court demanding salary. The teachers have demanded in the petition to order the EDMC to pay the outstanding salary and allowances of all the teachers for the last 5 months. The teachers have said in the petition filed through advocate Ashok Agrawal that if the EDMC is unable to pay the salary and allowances to the teachers, then they have demanded from the court to order them to hand over the operation of all their schools to the Delhi government.
The petition is likely to be heard on Monday. In the petition filed by Satyendra Nagar, Deepak Mangla, Sunil Kumar and others, it has been said that salary and allowances have not been given to the teachers from EDMC since last month. In the petition, Advocate Aggarwal has said that 365 primary schools are run by EDMC and 5000 teachers are working in them. He said that the EDMC has not paid salaries to these teachers from December 2021 till now. Aggarwal has said in the petition that due to non-payment of salary, teachers are facing a lot of difficulties in paying their household expenses, school fees of children and various EMIs. In the petition, it has been called a violation of the fundamental rights of teachers.
