After Gujarat’s decision to include the Bhagavad Gita in the school curriculum, Karnataka’s Secondary Education Minister BC Nagesh on Friday said the state government would hold discussions with academicians before taking any such decision.
Nagesh told reporters, “It has been decided to include moral science in the curriculum in Gujarat in three to four phases. In the first phase they will include the Bhagavad Gita. This has come to my notice. We will take a decision after discussing with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to include moral science in the curriculum. He said that many people have demanded that the study of moral science should be started. According to Nagesh, in the first week there was a class on moral science in which excerpts related to Ramayana and Mahabharata were taught.
He said that even Mahatma Gandhi used to give credit for his childhood education to Ramayana and Mahabharata. When he grew up, King Harishchandra had a great influence on his life. The Minister said that it is our duty to include those things in the curriculum which have a positive impact on the society.
