DU 100 Years Celebration: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has called for taking higher education to rural areas and making it more “inclusive and equitable”. Naidu said this while addressing the inaugural session of the centenary celebrations of Delhi University (DU) on Sunday. He said that education plays a vital role in human development, nation building and building a prosperous and sustainable global future. Naidu said that the ultimate aim of research should be to make people’s lives more comfortable and happy. Noting that India has the largest youth population in the world, the Vice President said that the collective power of our human resources should be harnessed for nation building. Terming the National Education Policy-2020 as a “visionary document” to revolutionize the educational scenario of the country, he also advocated for education in the mother tongue in schools, colleges and universities and said that this step can prove to be decisive. Emphasizing the importance of education in mother tongue, Naidu said that elementary education of children should be done in mother tongue. The Vice President said, “If children are given elementary education in their mother tongue, they will be able to understand it easily. But, if elementary education is given in any other language, then first they have to learn that language and then they will understand.” Naidu said the main medium of communication in administration and courts should be the local language. He said, “Every gazette notification and government order should be in the local or native language so that the common man can understand it.” Naidu said that ancient India had the reputation of Vishwaguru.
“The prestigious centers of knowledge in universities like Nalanda, Taxila, Vikramshila, Vallabhi and Odantapuri are ample testimony to this fact,” he said. The Vice President also congratulated Delhi University on completing 100 years. Naidu said, “I would like to congratulate all the people for the progress, development and progress of this university and for making it one of the prestigious institutions.” , Sanskrit and Telugu versions).
