In view of the reduction in the cases of corona epidemic, the 97th anniversary of the first medical college of Bihar and Odisha was organized on Friday. VP Chaudhary, Principal, PMCH said that 74 students have been awarded gold medals in various subjects on this occasion. Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey was also present on this historic occasion.

PMCH was known as Prince of Well Medical College before independence. The Prince of Well, who later became famous as King Edward-VIII, came to Patna in the year 1921. To make his visit memorable, this college was established in the year 1925. After independence its name was changed to PMCH.
Mahatma Gandhi also visited
On this occasion, alumni of the college, Satyajit Kumar Singh told Health Minister Mangal Pandey that some old heritage sites should be saved during the construction of new buildings. So that our future generations can get information about its history. The administrative building of the college which witnessed its formal inauguration in 1927 and Bankipur General Hospital should be patronized. Earlier too, the PMCH’s alumni association had demanded preservation of the principal’s office, the Hathwa Ward building of Bankipur General Hospital and the old operation theater where Mahatma Gandhi visited in 1947.
