Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji made her film debut in 1997 with ‘Raja Ki Aayegi Baaraat’. But he got to know him from Karan Johar’s film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. In those early days, Rani was known to have a distinct voice, which remains one of her most unique features to this day.
Before Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, she worked with Aamir Khan in the film Ghulam, after which she became famous as Aati Kya Khandala Girl. Not many know that Rani’s voice was dubbed by a voice over artist in the film.
Rani had told in an interview in 2018 that Aamir Khan, Mukesh Bhatt and Mahesh Bhatt did not want Rani to dub for herself in the film. She said that I thought that maybe I did not have that sharp, good and beautiful voice, which used to be that of an actress in those days.
Rani had told, “The shooting of Ghulam and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was happening at the same time. When it came time to start dubbing for Karan Johar’s film, Karan asked me if anyone else was dubbing his voice in Aamir Khan’s film. So I said that my voice is not that good.
Then Karan asked if I had dubbed for my first film, do I have any problem with dubbing? Karan asked me to dub for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.”
That decision of Karan changed everything for me. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was a very popular film, which was watched by all. From there my voice was also recognized. Even though Rani was in a supporting role in this film, the audience gave her a lot of love.
Aamir had regrets: Recalling that time, Rani said, “She remembers Aamir calling her after watching this film. Aamir had said that we made a mistake by dubbing your voice. Your voice is very sweet. That was a very special moment for me.” Rani said that she respects Aamir a lot. Let us tell you that Rani and Aamir have worked together in films like Mann, Mangal Pandey, Talaash. The audience gave a lot of love to their pair.
