Busan,(IANS)| Aparna Sen’s social drama, ‘The Rapist’ was declared the joint winner of the Kim Jisok Award at the 26th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), which concluded on Friday. The film starring Konkona Sen Sharma was premiered on 7 October in the ‘A Window on Asian Cinema’ section of the festival. Variety.com says it is a gripping Indian social drama about a middle-class academician who seeks the death penalty for her rapist, who has made her pregnant. She wants him to be punished in such a way that he wonders why he did it.
According to variety.com, the film, incidentally, is produced for Applause Entertainment by Sameer Nair, who was earlier the producer of the critically acclaimed web series, ‘Scam 1992’. The character of rapist is played by Tanmay Dhanania in the film.‘The Rapist’ shared the award with Filipino filmmaker Brilliant Mendoza’s boxing drama, ‘Jenson Punch’. The winners of the ‘New Currents Section’ were the Chinese film ‘Farewell, My Home Town’ (directed by Wang Er Zhuo) and the South Korean feature ‘The Apartment with Two Women’ (director Kim Se-in).
