New Delhi. Bollywood’s evergreen actress Vyjayanti Mala and South’s superstar Chiranjeevi have been honored with Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award. Both of them have received this award for their incomparable contribution in the field of art. President Draupadi Murmu distributed Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards for the year 2024 at the Civil Investiture Ceremony-II held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday evening. Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah also attended this award function.
President Draupadi Murmu honored Vyjayanti Mala and Chiranjeevi with Padma Vibhushan awards. Chiranjeevi expressed happiness on receiving the award and also expressed his gratitude to the people of the country for giving them love and support. He wrote on X, “Thank you to art lovers, to all those who supported me in the field of art.”
Chiranjeevi further wrote, “My congratulations to the Central Government who gave the Padma Vibhushan Award, to all those who congratulated me on this occasion.” Chiranjeevi also worked in Bollywood in the beginning of his career and achieved fame here too. Apart from Telugu, he worked in Tamil and Hindi films. He is a pan India superstar today.

At the same time, Vyjayanthimala entered the world of films in the year 1949. He worked with Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Rajendra Kumar in the 50-80s. She stayed away from films after 1970 but continued working in the field of art. She is now 90 years old.
Apart from Vaijayati Mala-Chiranjeevi, those honored with Padma Bhushan include Justice M. Fatima Beevi (posthumously), Hormusji N. Cama, Dr. Ashwin Balachand Mehta, Satya Vrat Mukherjee (posthumous), O. Rajagopal, Togdan Rinpoche (posthumously), Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma, Captain Vijaykant (posthumously) and Kundan Ramanlal Vyas.
