Nawazuddin Siddiqui had said in an interview, ‘Depression is an urban disease. I am telling my experience. May be I am wrong. If I go now and tell in my village that I am getting depressed. Then my villagers will slap me. He will say what is this. Go to the farm, eat food, sleep. So that’s why I would say that nothing like this happens. People in all these cities think too much and exaggerate their emotions.
Gulshan Devaiah’s reaction on Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s statement
Now actor Gulshan Devaiah has mentioned the character of Hindu epic Mahabharata, King Dhritarashtra and his wife Maharani Gandhari, on the statement of Nawazuddin Siddiqui. He tweeted, ‘Dhritarashtra and Gandhari syndrome. I respect his art a lot but I would not take him seriously on this issue. If you look at alcohol or drug addicts, these issues exist in the village as well. Actually addiction is also a mental illness. No one indulges in intoxication because they love it. Rather, all these are symptoms of these problems, which they cannot fix.
The director also expressed objection
Director Lakshmi Iyer had also expressed displeasure over Nawazuddin’s statement. He had said that such a serious subject should not be mixed in the discrimination of village or city. Depression is a scary disease. Anyway, there is less awareness on such mental health issues. In such a situation, it is not appropriate to say all this.
