Press Release of Sikh Association
Vivek Agnihotri had announced the production of his new film last week. There are speculations that the film will be based on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots but the director is yet to confirm the contents. The Maharashtra Sikh Association said in a press release that it “strongly opposes commercializing a human tragedy like the Sikh riots for creative expression and personal gain.” To this Vivek Agnihotri said that as a filmmaker he has the right to express himself and make films the way his conscience guides him. He also said that he is yet to reveal the contents of the film.
Vivek said – I am an Indian …
Vivek said, ‘I don’t know which organization it is. I am an Indian, I live in a sovereign country which has given me the right to express myself however I want. I will make what I want to be, what my conscience says. I am not a servant of any organization or anyone. I have not even disclosed what I am going to make, why I am going to make it. People are speculating what they can do. But in the end CBFC has to decide what kind of film I will make and release it or not.
Who- What is Maharashtra Sikh Association
The Maharashtra Sikh Association describes itself as an organization engaged in social, cultural, educational, sports and religious activities of the Sikh community in the state. The organization said that Agnihotri was “bolstered by the controversy and publicity” emanating from “The Kashmir Files” and now wanted to commercialize a human tragedy like the 1984 riots. It is worth noting that recently Vivek was in discussion due to his statement given in Chennai.
