Who was Sarabjit Singh?
Sarabjit Singh was a farmer living on the India-Pakistan border. On August 30, 1990, he accidentally reached Pakistani border. He was arrested by Pakistan Army. A Pakistani court found him guilty of the Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad bomb blasts and sentenced him to death in 1999. However, Sarabjit’s family had argued that Pakistan was forcefully implicating them. When the matter reached the international forum, the Pakistan government had to postpone the decision of hanging.
Amir Sarfaraz had murdered Sarabjit in jail.
After the hanging was postponed, the family and the country were hopeful that Sarabjit would return, but in April 2013, Amir Sarfaraz murdered Sarabjit by strangulating him with polythene and beating him in Kot Lakhpat jail. On the orders of Pakistani intelligence agency ISI, Amir had tortured and killed Sarabjit. He was admitted to Jinnah Hospital in Lahore in critical condition. A few days later, he died of a heart attack during treatment.
