New Delhi. Today is the death anniversary of Nargis Dutt, the famous and beautiful actress of Hindi cinema. Nargis Dutt did many superhit films in her film career, but her character became immortal in ‘Mother India’. His personal life made a lot of headlines in the newspapers. There was a lot of discussion on the relationship and marriage of Nargis and Sunil Dutt. Apart from this, her name was also associated with filmstar Raj Kapoor and their pairing on screen was also well-liked. Sunil Dutt used to like Nargis even before entering the film industry. Nargis had become a successful actress in the Hindi film industry in those days, while Sunil Dutt used to work in Radio Ceylon. It is said that both of them first met during an interview of Nargis in Radio Ceylon. During the shooting of Mother India, both came very close to each other. After this, in the month of March 1958, both of them got married. They have three children Sanjay Dutt, Namrata Dutt and Priya Dutt. But Nargis was close to Sanjay Dutt the most.
It was because of Nargis’s excessive love that Sanjay became a victim of bad habits. During an interview, Sanjay Dutt had said that “Mother used to let me do all the work and even when my undisciplined father tried to control me, she used to protect me. She would have been missing from the house overnight and on asking her father that she was in her room. When Nargis got cancer, Sanjay came to know about it much later, because she did not want to see Sanjay sad. Nargis was being treated abroad and she was on life support system there. When there was no hope of his survival, the doctors asked Sunil Dutt to remove his life support system, but he did not agree to it, because he loved Nargis very much. It was during Nargis’s illness that Sanjay Dutt’s first film Rocky was about to be released.
Nargis had a strong desire to see her son’s first film. She said that even if she had to watch the film on a stretcher, she would definitely watch it. But alas, it could not happen. Sanjay Dutt’s film Rocky was released on 8 May 1981, while Nargis said goodbye to this world on 3 May itself at the age of 51.
