Mumbai. In January this year, it was announced to give Padma Bhushan Award to Usha Uthup for her outstanding contribution in the field of art. The ceremony was held on 22 April at Rashtrapati Bhavan in the presence of President of India Draupadi Murmu, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Usha was honored with Padma Bhushan by the President. She appeared very happy on this occasion. She told News18Shosha that she still misses Bappi Lahiri a lot.
Usha Uthup revealed that on the occasion of receiving Padma Bhushan, she missed late Bappi Lahiri a lot. Usha along with Bappi Lahiri sang chartbusters like ‘Ramba Ho’, ‘Hari Om Hari’ and ‘Koi Yahaan Nache Nache’. He said, “I missed him a lot. I missed both Bappi Lahiri and RD Burman.”
Usha Uthup also recalled the conversation she had with President Draupadi Murmu. He said, “After the photo-op, we had tea with the President of India, where the Prime Minister also came. Met everyone and had an interactive session. She (the President) came to me and said – ‘Hari Om Hari… We have grown up listening to your songs. There was no celebration of Holi or any kind of puja without your songs.”
Usha Uthup further said, “I was very surprised to hear this. I was surprised that he remembered my songs ‘Hari Om Hari’ and ‘Ramba Ho’. This reminds me of Bappi Da a lot.” Along with this, she told that she was very happy after seeing Rashtrapati Bhavan from inside. He also praised the beauty of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
