New Delhi. Like many stars are made in Bollywood, but no one will be able to become a superstar like Rajesh Khanna again. No star has been blessed with stardom like him till date. There was a time when his coin used to run in the industry. Almost every film of his used to earn handsomely at the box office. He became the first superstar by giving 15 consecutive hits simultaneously. Everyone was crazy about his acting. The girls were desperate to get a glimpse of him. A crowd of thousands used to gather outside his bungalow ‘Aashirwad’ to see him.
Salman’s father Salim Khan himself had said in an interview that ‘Even though thousands of people come outside the house to see my son (Salman Khan), I have seen a more horrifying sight outside Rajesh Khanna’s house, where far away. Till far only his fans were visible. However, after immense popularity, there came a time when Rajesh Khanna was left alone.
Once the Income Tax Department had sealed Rajesh Khanna’s bungalow. He was accused of investing in benami properties and not disclosing the same. The Income Tax Department had shown a liability of Rs 1.5 crore on him and for not doing so, his bungalow was sealed. Rajesh Khanna was broken by this incident and he went on drowning in alcohol. Once director Ashok Tyagi shared an anecdote related to Rajesh Khanna.
Ashok Tyagi told that he used to meet Rajesh Khanna often on Linking Road. Once Rajesh Khanna, after putting two or three pegs, took Ashok with him and stopped the car in front of his bungalow Aashirwad. At that time his bungalow was sealed by the Income Tax Department.
It was raining lightly at that time. Rajesh Khanna started telling Ashok about his old days. He told Ashok that the bench on which he is sitting, once upon a time, hundreds of people waited for hours near the same bench to see him. After which Ashok told him, ‘Kaka ji, don’t worry, those fans will come again after you see our film.’
