New Delhi, October 22 (IANS)| With 10 teams set to compete for the coveted trophy in the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Bollywood superstar couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are likely to engage in a bidding battle for two new teams. Two new franchises are set for the 2022 season, increasing the number of teams from eight to 10.
The IPL governing body has invited bids to acquire the rights to two new teams for the upcoming season. As the date of announcement is getting closer day by day, many big giants of the world have shown interest in bidding for the teams. According to reports, Bollywood superstar couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh may be in the race to own a team, which shows that the race to own teams is bigger than ever.
Currently, the Adani Group, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group and the Glazer family are in the race to become the owners of the new teams. Other interested bidders are pharma companies like Torrent Pharma and Aurobindo Pharma. A Singapore-based private equity firm and US-based venture capitalists have also shown interest, while Naveen Jindal (Jindal Power & Steel) and entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala are also being speculated to be involved. The results will be announced in Dubai on October 25, a day after the most anticipated cricket match of all time, when the ICC World T20 match between India and Pakistan will take place. IPL is the most lucrative T20 cricket league in the world and everyone wants to be a part of the hugely successful league.
