Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 11 (IANS) | The much-awaited Malayalam film ‘Kurup’ starring Dulquer Salmaan will hit the theaters on Friday. ‘Kurup’ is directed by Srinath Rajendran and follows the story of Kerala’s most wanted criminal Sukumara Kurup, who is on the run after killing a film representative Chacko to embezzle insurance money by writing the story of his death.
According to the police, ‘Kurup’ was influenced by a German crime-novel and had tried to script his death to get an insurance claim.The claim was of Rs.8,00,000. Film representative Chacko was waiting for the bus late at night, when Kurup killed him by giving him a lift in his car. Sukumar Kurup has reportedly fled abroad, while two of his associates – driver Ponappan and brother-in-law Bhaskar Pillai – have been sentenced to life imprisonment.Sukumar Kurup is still on the absconding list since January 1984 and the Chacko murder case is one of the longest running cases in the judicial history of the state.
The film was supposed to hit the theaters on May 28, 2021, but was delayed due to the Covid pandemic. Made on a budget of Rs 35 crore, the film is being released worldwide and according to the makers, the film will release in the US, UK and Canada as well as Gulf countries and Singapore.The film is jointly produced by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films in association with M-Star Entertainments. The film has been shot in Kerala, Mumbai, Dubai, Mangaluru, Mysore, Gujarat and Ahmedabad.Apart from Dulquer Salmaan, the cast includes Indrajit Sukumaran, Sunny Wayne, Shine Tom Chacko, Sobhita Dhulipala and Bharat Srinivasan in pivotal roles.
