Today many films are being made in the Hindi film industry. Budget planning is already being done for these films, for which financiers and producers are gathered. Now there are many actors who invest money in their own films, but there was a time when artists, writers and directors were found together to make a film, but no producer was ready. People used to invest money in films very thoughtfully. Profit and loss would make some rich and some on the road. Many producers used to invest money only in films with big budgets and big actors. A few years ago also, a film was made for which no one was ready to invest money, but when this film was ready, it became a cult classic. This film was made through crowd funding.
Crowd funding done for the film
Crowd funding was done for ‘Manthan’, released in 1976. This film created history in India and became the first film made with crowd funding. Recently it was screened at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Late actress Smita Patil was in the lead role in this film. Along with him, Girish Karnad, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Naseeruddin Shah, Mohan Agashe, Anant Nag and Amrish Puri were also in lead roles. It was directed by Shyam Benegal. Every character was a perfect fit, but Shyam Benegal had to make many sacrifices to make this film.

This is how the film was made
Naseeruddin Shah was new at that time. He had just started establishing his foothold in art cinema. Whereas Girish Karnad was the top art actor. Amrish Puri had a strong negative role in the film. The dairy cooperative movement was shown in this 134-minute film. The story of the film was taken from Verghese Kurien. He is known for revolutionizing milk production. In the film, Girish played the character of Verghese Kurien, known as ‘Milkman of India’. Smita Patil was mainly seen showing the women of the village. The film was made only after 5 lakh farmers of milk production group of Gujarat gave Rs 2 each to make this film. After the release of this film, these farmers came in trucks to watch the film.
