Filmmaker-director Ram Gopal Varma says that his 1998 film ‘Satya’ was not made very carefully but honestly and the film should be a lesson for the producers who are competing to make a film with big budget and big stars.
‘Satya’ is a gangster drama, which is still appreciated by cinema for his artistry. The film is scheduled to release in theaters on 17 January. The film, written by Saurabh Shukla and Anurag Kashyap, focuses on the world of crime with the point of view of the lead character played by JD Chakraborty.
Verma said in a long post on the social media platform ‘X’ that without any big artist or budget, ‘Satya’ gave his message and this should be a ‘eye -opening’ composition for all the storytellers of the Hindi film industry.
He said that ‘Satya’ was made not cleverly but with an honest tendency and the status it has received should be a lesson for all the filmmakers of the present and future, including its original manufacturer.
Verma (62) said, “When the whole industry is running behind heavy budget, expensive VFX, huge set and superstar, it would be wise to regain ‘Satya’ and think deeply for all of us to think deeply that how it became such a big blockbuster without the requirements described above … This would be right for ‘Satya’.
He said that when he decided to make a film, the team had no idea about what we were making on the subject matter, “he said,” Each of us realized each other’s talent only when the film became hit and then he got to hear his talent. “
Verma said about the film completing 25 years in 2023 that the finest characters of Satya (Chakravarti), Bhiku Mhatre (Manoj Bajpayee) and Kallu Mama (Shukla) were raised from the characters of real life. He said that ‘Satya’ proved that the best films cannot be made by thinking, but they become themselves.
He said, “None of us in the film could repeat the magic of ‘Satya’ again, it proves my above. In short, we did not make ‘Satya’, ‘Satya’ made us. ”
He said that he did not remember a single conversation about the film’s box office possibilities, although he wanted it to be successful. He said that the team had no script but he was honest about the shooting that he was shooting every day.
