Mumbai: Deol family is one of the most influential families of Bollywood. From Dharmendra-Hema Malini to Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol have been among the most brilliant actors of the industry. There is another member from the Deol family, who made his debut in Bollywood and also got success. But, these actors were scared of their own success. We are talking about Abhay Deol, who says that when his film Dev.D was released, he was so scared of the audience’s response to the film and its success that he ran away from the country. However, initially Abhay Deol was criticized for choosing off-beat genre films like Dev.D and Oye Lucky.
Oye Lucky Lucky Oye! And after the success of films like Dev D, today Abhay Deol feels right. Because, after the release of these films, they were well liked among the audience. Abhay Deol recently went to Chandigarh for a film festival. While talking to the media, he told that he was not able to handle the sudden fame in the beginning and had left the country.
Throwing light on his career graph, Abhay said- ‘In those days, cinema which looked bigger than expected was considered a means of survival. But, as I grew up, I didn’t want anything else. I just wanted to maintain my identity. I didn’t like my own films at that time. In such a situation, I used to think that when I am not liking my films, what will the audience like? Filmmakers were continuously making the same type of films, so where would the change come from?
Abhay told during this time that he was scared of Dev D’s success. He said- ‘I was having a lot of trouble with fame, because I had seen its effect on my family. This seemed to me an interference in my personal life. That’s why I ran away from the country. I was feeling that it could be worse. I was not liking the process of marketing myself. I thought it was very cheap. And I stayed away from the fame I was getting, which I regret today.
Abhay further said- ‘During that time it used to happen that whenever any of my films flopped, I used to be criticized. And as soon as a film became a hit, they used to say that it was ten years ahead of its time. There was a struggle even then. However, I proved my point with Oye Lucky Lucky Oye.
